The Fleet Manager is accountable for ensuring the effective and efficient management of vehicles in all companies. Responsibilities’ include ensuring vehicles are in safe working order and performing efficiently; total cost of vehicle operations are contracted and minimized; complying with all applicable requirements and regulations; ensuring all drivers and operators of vehicles and equipment are trained and competent and ensuring compliance with MOT driver certification and CVOR programs.


  • Manage fleet services budget and provide cost analysis in relation to vehicle replacement schedules, maintenance costs and performance benchmarking
  • Develop productivity measurements and performance standards using fleet cost and usage rate analyses
  • Assist in tracking, analyzing, and presenting financial and budgetary information
  • Maintain replacement costs and collect depreciation information
  • Provide capital spending or leasing plans and recommendations
  • Manage outside fleet and maintenance contractors and where necessary sourcing contactors
  • Ensure vehicles comply with regulations and all documentation is in place to support due diligence
  • Ensure drivers/operators comply with regulations and all documentation is in place to support due diligence
  • Ensure vehicles are safe to operate and all documentation to support is in place
  • Ensure vehicles are available for use by minimizing down time
  • Write vehicle specifications for purchase or lease of vehicles & equipment
  • Work in compliance with all health and safety and environmental legislation 


  • Secondary school completion is required. College or University degree is considered an asset
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License
  • Previous experience in Asset Fleet Management Services
  • Strong budget and financial understanding
  • Ability to analyze costs and effectiveness
  • Extensive knowledge of selecting and acquiring equipment
  • Knowledge of the operation of specialized electrical utility equipment and the requirements to ensure it keeps functioning
  • Planning of maintenance systems from a reactive planned and conditional based perspective
  • Ability to monitor and control maintenance & repair costs
  • Investigate and settle accidents
  • Understanding of the regulations surrounding the operation of vehicle fleets
  • Strong safety awareness
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate well, and to provide training and orientation clearly and effectively
