They require a Health & Safety/Environmental Specialist to join their team in Hamilton. This person will also have exposure interfacing with other Health Safety and Environmental specialists within their other global facilities. MANDATE:
To ensure plant compliance to legislative requirements and corporate policies, lead in the development, implementation and maintenance of Safety Management Systems, Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) programs and Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures, and champion the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001: Environmental Management System.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Thorough understanding of ISO 14001/TS16949 requirements and standards.
- Audit and ensure compliance to Safety Management Systems and Occupational Health and Safety Training.
- Identify hazards, realized or potential and conduct risk assessments.
- Monitor and evaluate the results of programs related to Health, Safety or Environment.
- Ensuring compliance to legislative requirements and the ability to interface with the Ministry of Labour.
- Develop reporting and written programs to evaluate HSE programs.
- Experience in accident investigations, workplace inspections and risk assessments.
- Lead / participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University/College Graduate with a background in health and safety or equivalency.
- 3-5 years of experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental management role.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to health and safety including but not limited to, Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario, Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
- Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) and/or Joint Health and Safety Committee Member in a manufacturing environment an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex Health Safety & Environmental issues.
- Strong business acumen with a financial inclination.
- Computer-literate with experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Lotus Notes an asset.
- Ability to adapt, multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong project management and scheduling skills.
- Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills in a team-based atmosphere.
